Route 66
Our History
Impromptu was formed in 2016 by Gary Houk and Janeen Walker. While playing at a local winery during a private party, the manager asked when they could book them. This single booking then led to a private party in which Gary reached out to Erik Nelton to join them on drums. Shortly afterwards, Gary and Janeen joined Erik and Rob Williams (bassist) for a unique Christmas Concert performance in Malvern, PA. After the performance we all realized that there was a special and unique chemistry between the four of us. Since then we have been playing steadily in the Chester/Montgomery county area.

Gary Houk – Pianist / Band Leader
Gary is originally from Anderson, IN. He first took an interest in music at the age of 5 when he started taking organ lessons. He moved to the East coast in 1993 to play in live shows at Dorney Park and then Busch Gardens in 1995. Afterwards, he moved to the Philadelphia area where he has played in several different bands as either a pianist or drummer.
Janeen Walker – Lead Vocalist
Vocalist Janeen Walker has been performing professionally for almost 30 years. Janeen has entertained audiences locally and regionally in theatre and has been a vocalist for various bands throughout the area. A founding member of IMPROMPTU, Janeen credits the versatility of the band to the professionalism and true love of music and performance that IMPROMPTU offers.

Erik Nelton – Drums/Percussionist
Erik Nelton has been playing professionally for over 35 years. He started out on piano as a young boy, but he always knew that drums and percussion were his passion. His strength is in his ability to play all styles and genres proficiently.
Robert Williams – Acoustic/Electric Bassist
Growing up in suburban Philadelphia, Rob Williams would always listen to many different styles of music. Throughout his music careern he has played with many local rock, jazz and gospel artists. While he still plays with many different artists, he considers “Impromptu” to be his main focus.
